On October 27, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins sent forward Tiernan Shoudy back to Florida. He had just played two American Hockey League games after a recall, and he had one assist in two games for the Everblades. The next day the same club reassigned defenseman David Breazeale to Florida. He had two Everblades games behind him and none for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Both moves came through an affiliation that began this season. As of 2026–27, the team at Hertz Arena sits at the bottom of the Pittsburgh Penguins' development chain. Players now move between Estero and northeastern Pennsylvania on a schedule set partly in Pittsburgh. That matters most in November, when the Everblades play five home games between Friday, November 13 and Saturday, November 21.
Three rungs, with Estero on the third
On July 16, 2026, Penguins President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas named the Everblades the club's ECHL affiliate. Here is how the chain runs this season:
- Pittsburgh Penguins, the NHL club.
- Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the primary development affiliate in the AHL.
- Florida Everblades, the secondary development affiliate, playing in the ECHL's South Division of the Eastern Conference.
For the previous two seasons, Florida was the St. Louis Blues' ECHL affiliate, and the Springfield Thunderbirds were the AHL link. On June 20, 2026, the Blues named the Worcester Railers as their new ECHL affiliate. They cited Worcester's location within 50 miles of Springfield and said the closer distance would create player opportunities and development and scouting efficiencies. Less than a month later, Pittsburgh took the open slot.
That chain is the route the Shoudy and Breazeale moves traveled. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton recalls and reassigns players, and the Everblades' nightly lineup takes in whatever those decisions produce.
Why a championship roster was worth a parent club's prospects
Pittsburgh was open about what it wanted. "The Penguins are excited to partner with the Florida Everblades, who are one of the premier organizations in the ECHL," Penguins Assistant General Manager Jason Spezza said in the club's July announcement. He said the organization puts "a strong emphasis on a three-tiered development model between the NHL, AHL and ECHL," and that Florida's "championship pedigree and winning environment will help our players reach their maximum potential." In the same statement he credited Craig Brush and Head Coach Brad Ralph by name. Ralph is still listed as head coach and general manager on the 2026–27 roster.
The pedigree Spezza described is a matter of record. The Everblades were founded in 1998 and acquired by David Hoffmann and the Hoffmann Family of Companies in 2019. They are the only ECHL team with five Kelly Cups, won in 2012, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2026, and the only team to win the Cup three seasons in a row. They have reached the postseason in 25 of their 26 seasons. Last season they went 49-13-7-3 to finish first in the South Division, then beat the Kansas City Mavericks in six games for the Cup.
The arrangement works for both sides. Pittsburgh gets a place where its prospects learn in a winning room. The Everblades start with a core that knows how to win, since 10 players from the Kelly Cup team returned this season, and they add prospects as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton sends them. The fifth banner went up before the October 17 opener against Orlando, with LED bracelets handed to the first 7,000 fans. The Everblades' most recent result before this post was a 2-0 win at Greenville on October 31.
Five home nights between November 13 and 21
Because players can arrive and leave between games, the roster on a Friday can differ from the roster on the following Saturday. November's home stand puts five games inside nine days, all at Hertz Arena:
| Date | Opponent | Puck drop | Theme and giveaway |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fri., Nov. 13 | South Carolina Stingrays | 7:30 p.m. | Swampee's Birthday; bucket hat for the first 1,500 fans |
| Sat., Nov. 14 | South Carolina Stingrays | 7 p.m. | Military Night; replica specialty jersey for the first 1,500 fans |
| Wed., Nov. 18 | Orlando Solar Bears | 7:30 p.m. | Wednesday pricing: $4 beers and $4 hot dogs |
| Fri., Nov. 20 | Savannah Ghost Pirates | 7:30 p.m. | Country Night; cowboy hat for the first 1,500 fans |
| Sat., Nov. 21 | Savannah Ghost Pirates | 7 p.m. | Blades Fight Cancer and Faith & Family Night |
The Orlando game on Wednesday belongs to a rivalry the schedule leans on heavily. The teams played 14 times last season and Florida won 12. This season they meet 15 times. It is also the only Wednesday of the stand, and the team's 2026–27 promotional schedule sets $4 beers and $4 hot dogs for Wednesday home games.
The home stand closes on November 21 with Blades Fight Cancer and Faith & Family Night, presented by Florida Cancer Specialists. The Everblades will wear specialty jerseys for an evening dedicated to people affected by cancer and to celebrating faith, family and community. According to the team's game page, those jerseys are available through the DASH App. The team says promotional dates and details are subject to change, so check the schedule before you go.
November 14 is a two-venue Saturday in Estero
The Saturday of the home stand overlaps with the Village's own Veterans Day event. The Village of Estero holds its Veterans Day celebration from 10 a.m. to noon on November 14 at Estero Community Park, listed as the Estero Park & Recreation Center at 9200 Corkscrew Palms Blvd. The Village's announcement lists music, classic cars, military vehicles, children's entertainment, and free hot dogs, chips and water.
That evening the Everblades host Military Night against South Carolina at 7 p.m., presented by the National Coalition for Patriots. The team will wear specialty jerseys, and the first 1,500 fans receive a replica of the jersey worn that night. That leaves a full afternoon between the park ceremony and the arena's 6 p.m. door time.
Getting in and out of Hertz Arena
With five games in nine days, plus Il Volo: Live In Concert at the arena on Wednesday, November 11 at 8 p.m., Hertz Arena has at least six events booked between November 11 and November 21. Here is what Hertz Arena currently posts:
- Parking: $15 to $30 plus taxes and fees, cashless payment only. The lot opens two hours before the event.
- Doors: Everblades doors open one hour before puck drop, so 6:30 p.m. for the 7:30 games and 6 p.m. for the 7 p.m. games.
- Bags: Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches are allowed, as are one-gallon clear freezer bags and small clutches up to 4.5 by 6.5 inches. Diaper bags are allowed with a child and medically necessary items are allowed after inspection. There is no bag check, so anything else goes back to the car. The arena's bag policy dates to 2019, so it is worth checking the venue site before game night.
- Food: The arena runs four main concession stands plus specialty food and beverage portables.
For road games, every Everblades game streams on FloHockey.TV and airs locally on the Heroes & Icons Network. Radio coverage is on The FAN at 94.1, 103.3 and 105.9 FM and online at Everblades.mixlr.com.
The December dates already on the calendar
The next themed home night on the promotional schedule is Friday, December 4, against the Cincinnati Cyclones. That is the Teddy Bear Toss, when fans bring a new or gently used stuffed animal and throw it onto the ice after the Everblades' first goal, and the collected toys go to children in need across Southwest Florida for the holidays. On Saturday, December 5, against Cincinnati again, fans can skate with the players, and the first 1,500 receive a mystery mini hockey stick. By then, a few more Wilkes-Barre/Scranton transactions will probably have come through, and the roster will reflect them.
